WHAT DOES IT COST TO GET MARRIED?

There are a few costs to keep in mind when planning your wedding. A licence from a registry office in Lethbridge will likely cost somewhere between $70 and $80. After the ceremony, if you wish to order an official marriage certificate, you can. It would likely be between $35 and $45, depending on which registry agency you choose.

While the Province does not set fees for the actual ceremony, marriage commissioners will often come to an agreement on what is an acceptable fee for their region. Starting in 2023, commissioners in Lethbridge agreed a fee of $350 would be appropriate.

Also, I do ask for a $50 non-refundable fee to hold a day and time for your ceremony. This is deducted from the total fee of $350.

Sometimes a couple wants a rehearsal. This is something we can chat about and determine if it is necessary. There is an additional $100 fee for a rehearsal.

Outside of Lethbridge

Please note that this fee applies to weddings that actually take place in Lethbridge. For travel outside of Lethbridge, I do need to apply a fee of $1.00 per kilometre both to and from the wedding location. Many communities already have appointed marriage commissioners and you should consult with them first as to their availability on your wedding day.

To find out if there is a marriage commissioner in your location, please check with Service Alberta.

Should you find that a commissioner is not available in your chosen wedding site on your date, I would be happy to work with you to provide a unique ceremony to meet your needs.
